This is unusual. The cable is part number 415-51105. This is cable made up of a wire wrapped sheath with a single strand wire which provides the push/pull function. The sheath provides friction for the internal wire. If the push/pull wire does not hold position, the cable may be worn out or the internal wire was replaced in the past. For some reason friction is not holding it in place as it should. Consider a new cable. They are available from Univair $102.24 as of 5/30/2017.

My newly installed carb heat cable/knob insists on going back into the panel during approach, even though the retract spring has been removed. My mechanic is reluctant to bend the cable as it produces wear and eventual breakage. He wonders if there was once a clip of some sort to hold it in place. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep the knob pulled out other than holding it there?
