I have a 7153 lying in my hangar. Unfortunately, my prop shop said the tips are too thin. I replaced it with a McCauley 1B90-7150. It is a square tipped prop that is a much newer design and is currently in production. It cruises a bit faster than the 7153 but does not seem to climb quite as well. It turns 2200 static and climbs at 75mph at 2310-20 rpm.

seems like the diameter is a little short, I will look for it but I was under the impression the diameter range was between 71" to 76". I got that from a Continental engine guide some where. A few more inches of diameter would help to keep under the redline in cruise as long as you fall within the static rpm range on the ground.

Keith, I assume your tach is accurate? I don’t know anything about the Alon/C90 combination but My buddy has one with a climb prop. I’m guessing 7146. He climbs like crazy but his cruise sucks. About 90mph.
I’ve flown with him several times and I don’t recall any redline issues.

Hey Ken,
It's for a '66 Alon A2 Aircoupe with a C90. From what I understand the 1A105 7153 is the prop that came with the plane at purchase, and is said to retain much of the climb performance while really improving cruise performance. With the 7148 I currently have I hit redline in cruise flight at about 60% throttle so I'm not using anywhere near the 90hp available to me except during climb out, and only if I am below 80mph. Any faster than 80mph and I'm above redline.

Is that for an Ercoupe? Curious what engine you have and why that pitch. Seems like it would really hurt your climb.
