John,
The paper work that Lowell referred to is a full copy, with dwgs, for STC SA2628SW. The STC does not address the gascolator per se - only says "install engine package on aircraft per ERCOUPE SERVICE MANUAL and drawing TAS-415-1. The dwg does not address or picture the gascolator!! The "loop hole" possibly in the " Installation Instructions" " References" it list the Ercoupe Service Manual Model A2 and A2-A PP21 and 22 - these are the Alon coupes that I'm not familiar with - but if the gascolator was moved to the firewall on these models then that could be construed as a part of the "engine package" per the referenced ERCOUPE SERVICE MANUAL and "leagalize" the move.

As a side note, "in the interest of safety (FAA likes) and to facilitate maintenance" I think an A&P/IA could classify the move to the firewall as a "minor alteration" with just a log book entry" or if the Alon or any later model did move the gascolator then that would be good justification for a field approval citing the later model change.

Would be interested to hear from any Alon owner if their gascolator is on the firewall or having their service manual PP 21 and 22..

Like Lowell, my O-200 conversion has the same location for the gascolator.

Hope this helps.

John, hang on, talked with Ed Moore yesterday about the Gasc. you wanted. He is
working on some paper work that might work for you and others.

No, just installed per STC etc, etc. I have a R.R. Cont. engine from a Cessna 150,
1967 Model, same as one made by Cont. I guess Cont. was running short of
engines to fill Cessna's order for engines. Except for data plate you would not
know it was made in G.B. by R.R. I never liked the idea of mounting the Gasc.
to the Carb....should be mounted on firewall. All I have is the 337, no drawings
or paper work for installing the engine. All modern planes are mounted on the
firewall.

Thanks Lowell. Does the STC mention anything about the gascolator?

I have a 0-200 engine with the STC per the 337, and the gascolator is mounted on
the firewall (which it should be) but the STC does not say where the dang thing
is to be mounted. No paper work with the A/C records as to the mod. I like it just
where it is!! I never could understand mounting it on the shaking carb!!! I am happy
being fat and happy where it is. NO AD required!!

Has anyone had success in getting a field approval for moving the gascolator to the firewall? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
