I tend to put the screws back in the holes they came from, secured by tape. (Not all are the same size) My A&P prefers to bag them, after which they go back in some order or another...) Putting the cowl back on is more fun. I prefer to reattach it from the center out, front to back - and not to tighten the screws down until all are in. Then, tighten following the same pattern, front and center to the outsides, then along the hinges, and all of these with the Dzus fittings on the cowl sides, attached. It seems to be easier that way, than to do it all tight, and have to undo it to get it to fit! Steve McNew

Ours has been removed several times by my mechanic, I believe they just unscrewed it and pulled it off.

I have a 415C / C85 and will be removing the cowling for the first time. Is it as simple / straight forward as removing the header tank sight gauge and unscrewing the visible screws?
Thanks for any advice
