The G5 IS STCed into the Mooney. Look under Univair, not Mooney.

I've considered the G5 and other modern options too. I didn't find the M10 on the G5's approved equipment list. The Aspen Avionics E5 caught my eye and lists the M10 in its STC. Still, I haven't really heard much feedback on the E5 from users.
The underlying reason I haven't immediately purchased it is that my family just grew, and I could use another seat. I thought I'd let the next owner choose his upgrades while not selling with inoperable equipment.

When my vacuum pump fails I'm planning on removing the entire system and putting in a GRT Mini GA with the air data module and magnetometer. Tied into the Aera 660 it will save weight and gain a lot more capability.

Or remove the vacuum pump completely and install a Garmin G5. I did and have no more pump failures and a reliable certified horizon (EFIS) that is independent of mechanical issues.

Look at Note 3 of the Engine Type certificate, Vacuum Pump, CC rotation, so you are good to go.
