If it were me (okay that's a lie... if it were really me I'd leave it alone because this plane already looks better than mine) I think I'd go with the wet sanding idea.
I wouldn't trust being able to control the spread & penetration of any stripping chemicals, and I'd be worried about what they would to do to the underlying fabric.
Is the yellow old-school dope, or is it something newer like Stewart or Stitts?

How to (safely) remove 6" wide black stripes off the cloth wingtips? was created by Mac McCormick
I am reading about Citri-Strip, wet sanding at about 800 grit. I know many have suggested just painting them over or leaving it alone. Has anyone (safely) stripped any paint off a cloth wingtip? I am wide open for suggestions. The goal is to remove all the black stripes to leave the aircraft all yellow. I did get the white pin stripes on the black stripes off, those were vintage 1970's vinyl.
