The hole points forward, slightly pressurizing the tank. If it's on backwards, fuel will be siphoned out as you fly. Tell your genius line guy that unless he is flying the plane, do what he's told!

I need help settling a local problem. When I purchased my Ercoupe I was told that the fuel caps need to be replaced so that the small hole in the cap points to the front. It seems that the line people who fuel my plane insist that the small hole should point to the back, the top part of the cap is higher where the hole is and I think this is influencing their thinking. Some claim to have been doing this for some time. Someone please explain to me the proper way the caps should be replaced and why so I can pass it along. Thank you
