VARMA is the Vintage Aircraft Replacement and Modification Article which was designed to allow older aircraft to be repaired with off-the-shelf parts which are no longer available from aircraft suppliers.

EAA Article

A friend of mine used a VARMA approval to use a starter from NAPA auto parts because it's the one that was originally used by the aircraft manufacturer. Similarly, the Ercoupe mechanical fuel pump was originally an automotive part, and VARMA approval could be used to allow installation of an automotive replacement part.

I just ordered the fuel pump overhaul kit from then & now. I have a spare  fuel pump and I'm gonna take the time to document the parts and send it in for a VARMA approval. If someone has already completed the process let me know and I can use that approval data for my tail number, otherwise if I'm successful, I will post it so everyone else can copy it for their tail number. I live by the saying, if you don't ask, you don't get. It's worth a shot.
