after several aggravating attempts to make "pull starter " work regularly, I converted to the push button start . . . like dying and going to heaven !!!

The pull starter is easy to adjust. Just adjust the contractors. Getting a Sky-Tec is great but expensive and requires cutting off a shaft. I’ve been using my pull starter for 14 years with no problems.

I second the Sky-Tech starter. Why spend the money to rebuild an out of date system? Convert and lose seven pounds in the process. Easier than going on a diet.

SkyTech lightweight starter. Uses a button push to start and all the pull cable stuff comes out. Saves about 7 pounds too.
Mine did that some too. Mechanic tapped the starter gently with a ball peen hammer to get the brushes to make contact. I removed the starter and cleaned the brushes, Worked OK after that. New starter worked much better. Spins the prop faster also.
