I doubt it is kosher with the FAA, but a creative fix, to make it a bit better, paint the surface with wing walk paint or put anti slip tape on it.

Ercoupe rudder pedal brake fix was created by Lawson Laslo
When we had the rudder pedals installed they cut off the actual brake pedal to make room for the pedals and just leave a round numb, this makes it very hard to push in the brakes and stop the airplane, as there’s no leverage or grip.
To fix this we purchased a flange with set screws from local hardware store and attached it to the brake pedal, it clears the rudder pedals and works good.
