@raymond also understood on the Tail numbers. I did what you you said and took some rough measurements. @arlan understood on the CFR, appreciate the help very much gentlemen. My rough measurements are the last image.

I am considering Scampy's sizing including the tail number size and placement. Here are some WWII and post war C.A.P. Ercoupes for everyone that I managed to scrounge in my travels, including a yellow one!

Making progress and thank you everyone for your help and inputs!

Looks like it all comes down to proportions primarily with a min of 12" tall lettering. Please point me in the right direction if this is off.

So far what I am finding based on your inputs, and like the image you posted, and rereading (and hopefully I am understanding correctly, 14 CFR part 45.29, b., 1., i.),  I found photos like the Ercoupe "Scampy" Tail No. N94196 and the Ercoupe "C.A.P". N37140 both show the wing lettering to be as long as the aileron and no longer. The aileron is about 114". Using part 45.29's proportions the height comes out to about 20" width a little over 13" spacing 3" total length is a little over 113" and fits with the photos and fits with Part 45's "No smaller than 12.". Using 24" height with the FAA proportions, then the lettering goes out almost to the very wingtip and over the wing fairing strip and onto, or right next to, the walkway stripe at about 136" give or take.

EAA site refers to 16” wide 24” high spaced 4” separation The 1st “N” top of the left wing starts 16” from the fuselage. I am going to measure it out to see what it would look like using that data. Note, even with large wing numbers, back then the smaller number was on the rear of the fuselage or vertical tail. Ref part 45.22 Exhibition, antique, and other aircraft: Special rules. PS If you’re aircraft was built prior to 1949, the NC wing and small tail or fuselage registration numbers were required.
