#1, I use Simple Green ( regular strength ) on the oil , exhaust bug , and bird droppings , if they seem to be stuck on .
#2 , Then I use Lemon Pledge ( regular ,( not the tea tree oil one ) on the painted surfaces / metal or fabric . Sometimes use it on windshield and side windows too .
I always use 100% cotton to clean everything , the softer the better .
Then another very light wipe with a soft cotton cloth , to remove any residue or haze from using too much Pledge .
In the spring , I do the above procedure , let it dry completely over night and then the next day , apply a high end spray on - wipe off car wax product , like McGuiars / with UV protection !
There again , follow up after it it is dry , with a very soft cotton cloth .
Old T shirts work well for the application and cleaning process / and old sweat shirts , turned inside out , work well for buffing .
