Alon Control Wheel Material

For what it is worth, I think they are aluminum.

I tested the material using vinegar (did not bubble), and exposing some shavings to a flame (did not ignite).

Does anyone know if the Alon/Mooney control wheels are magnesium or aluminium?  

I am looking to strip and paint mine, and realizing magnesium requires more care.
