You can pretty much change any continental into another by putting the correct parts in it but a c90 in any Ercoupe model G and below will need a field approval. The O200 crank STC does not because of the STC.

Here is the service bulletin number M 75-6R1 go to the Continental Motors website go support, service bulletins and print it out.
I think you will be surprised to see that you can convert small continentals but you have to do your research.
Hope this helps

Would love to check out Continental's paperwork
and discover what is required compared to the
85 hp STC . Any one out there already know?
Can you reply with the link for others to see?
Per Larry's comment, a field approval is required
to keep it a C model. Unless my A&P has some
good connections, the 85 hp STC may be my
only reasonable paperwork option. -Bruce.

Larry is correct on being able to upgrade a c-85 with the STC for the 0-200 crank. But I have a document from Continental Motors that states that you can up grade any small continental to a C-90 with only several big changes. You have to install all the components of a c-90 into the case of a smaller motor and then re stamp the data plate on engine.
I will try and locate the paper if you need it.

First, as far as I know, a C-75 cannot be upgraded to a C-90. And if it could be, only with a field approval in a 415C. You can increase horsepower up to 10% without a field approval, I think. But you CAN upgrade to a C-85, because the type certificate explicitly allows it, and buy the STC allowing the installation of an O-200 crank, which results in an engine that will give a C-90, and even an O-200, a run for its money.
