Nose gear fairing

The fairing is used to aerodynamically streamline the nose strut when fully extended. If you have a snubber cable keeping it from extending then it is an airbrake. If you want to keep the snubber cable, take off the fairing. If you want a 1mph increase in speed, keep the fairing and take off the snubber.

Lot's of opinion on this.

The original design did not have the snubber cables. The fairing on the scissors is meant to provide aerodynamics once the nose wheel has extended fully after take off. There is allot of discussion on this topic in other places if you haven’t found your answer already.

Does anyone know the purpose of the nose gear fairing?
Since it's not particularly attractive it must have some useful function. Is it an auxiliary front rudder? Is it only a fairing for the torque link?
