Yup, I've seen that one. I was wondering how the approval process might work and how likely it might be to be approved.

The company in Canada has one field approval for the modification, however, you would have to get it approved for your specific airplane. As of late, FSDOs are loathe to approve such modifications based on previous 337s. Better be sure to get that approval before doing anything! You might have a spiffy, wing-folding lawn ornament otherwise!

Here is a little more information, and a picture. Notice this is a Canadian company. There is some question as to if this is an FAA approved modification.

Actually, Yes. The idea is to be trailerable and allow someone to keep the aircraft in their garage (if they so desire) without having to fully remove the wings. With the costs in aviation continuing to go up I thinking this would be another step in making Coupes more affordable to keep and operate. :-)

I suppose this would be useful for hangaring on an aircraft carrier. :)

Was the idea that it be trailer-able? Otherwise, I'm not sure why anyone would want to do this.

So I guess this could fall under the Destination or Tech help category. We recently went on vacation to Hope, ID and went to the Bird Museum (Dr. Bird recently died and his wife died in a plane crash about 2 weeks ago). While there I noticed an Alon A2 (see link) that had a folding wing modification, tail number N21DB. I only remember seeing one Ercoupe (or variant) with an STC for this. Thoughts? I wonder if this modification is something that others in the community could make to their aircraft? Interesting possibility. On a side note, while talking with the volunteers at the museum I discovered that Mrs. Bird learned to fly in an Ercoupe and was an accomplished pilot.
