Hey Jerry: Glad to hear you got your problem fixed.
There are several competitors to/for the Stromberg Specialist.
Company cost
Mikes metering service 550
Aircraft Supply 675
Quality Aircraft Accessories 795
Stromberg Specialist 975
Precision Engines 1044
These are all if you send in your core/carburetor.
Lynn

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you. I have a different, but also successful story. My carb was weeping, so I asked my A&P (who started on Jenny's, I think) if we should open it and take a look. We did - it looked pristine, even though the float appeared to have been modified for the rubber-tipped needle at one time in the past and was about 6 grams heavy*. It had the stainless steel needle, so we lapped it using fine valve grinding compound, finishing up with toothpaste. Each lapping took about 45 minutes of 45 to 50 degree motion on the needle, holding it in the direction it would be when installed. It worked! No more weeping, and my Ercoupe runs better than ever! I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but with little to use, it was worth a try, and it worked for us.
*the added weight was on the side of the pivot pin what would actually help in lifting the float, as though the float was lighter than it weighed.

We just yesterday got N3976H back from a month long "extensive" annual inspection.
As part of that we made the decision to send our carb out to the "Stromberg Specialist" and I have to say I could not be happier, and compared to my overall maintenance bill, I think his $1K fee was a bargain. We'd been having flagging performance for a while, and there were some clues the carb might be to blame. As it turns out, a previous owner had run the plane with garden-variety auto gas and the carb was full of guck. The Specialist said it was the worst he'd seen in his career. Imagine me explaining that I didn't starve the cat, it was half starved when I adopted it….
Anyway, when it came back it looked brand new! (See before and after images). More importantly, flying home yesterday I got better performance that I've ever had since we got the plane in 2013. It was amazing. I highly recommend this guy.
But now I need to learn to fly all over again! (I'm not used to "normal" performance.)

I sent mine to him last year, and am quite satisfied with the result. Costly, yes, but, it kept me out of the pool room! But, no drips, and I can now lean the thing - it was wired at full rich before. He does indeed know those things! 87100

I've heard many good things about him, and he's written some technical articles for the Coupe Capers. I don't have personal experience, though.

I know I'm not the first to have a weeping Stromberg. We know the stainless needle is not seating properly, and the float is about 8 grams heavy. Has anyone sent their carburetor to "The Stromberg Specialist?" If so, was it worth the $1000 he charges to repair it?
Any suggestions welcome. Jerry Loeffelbein, 415C, Cashmere, Washington
